This is a very formiliar site in the Hamptons during the winter. This can be avoided by having someone like a local friend or hired property manager to look over your home every few days just check and make sure everything is ok. With the record cold tempurates it may only take hours to cause a pipe break once the heat malfunctions. Help the Southampton Fire Department better serve you by providing the Southampton Village Police Dispatch at (631) 283-0083 with a list of names and phone numbers of the home owner and the local representive (caretaker or friend) that can respond in about 15 minutes should an emergency occur at your home. Also make sure the furnace or boiler are served at least once a year just before the cold season if possible.
